of the Adrenal Gland

Zona Reticularis: This is located in the innermost cortical zone, closest of the three to the medulla area. The zona reticularis produces sex hormones and some glucocorticoids.

Zona Fasciculata: The Zona Fasciculata is the middle zone of the adrenal gland. To differentiate between the other three layers, this layer contains long, cord-like processes. Zona fasciculata produces glucocorticoids and is the thickest part of the cortex.

Zona Glomerulosa: The Zona Glomerulosa is the topmost layer of the adrenal gland. This layer is where most mineralocorticoids production occurs and where the tight packed clusters are arranged in spherical structures.

Islet of Langerhans of the Pancreas: The pancreatic islets contain 3 vocab words, the acinar cells, alpha, and beta cells. The acinar cells surround the islet of langerhans while the alpha and beta cells are located within the islet itself. (There is no way to indicate them in this specific slide. Refer to page 409 of your lab manual for a clear picture.)

Posterior Pituitary Gland

Posterior Pituitary Gland:This is an closer vision of the PPG. The pituicytes are more evident. They are the dark nucleic looking bodies.

Anterior Pituitary Gland

Anterior Pituitary Gland: The anterior pituitary gland contains acidophil cells (secrete prolactin and growth hormones) and basophil cells (secrete TSH, ACTH, FSH, and LH).

Parathyroid Gland: The pointer points at the parathyroid gland, and is surrounded by the thyroid gland.
